Learning curve
For a while, I’ve been considering pursuing an associates degree in Web design. Journalism is fast moving away from newspapers and towards the Web, and in order to stay competitive in the field, I honestly think that I need to have an expanded Web skill set.
After talking with a few people, however, I’ve opted to try to just teach myself the new tricks with Web design. The concensus seems to be that things change so quickly with the design world that a degree really wouldn’t do me much good. So now I’m spending a fair amount of my free time going through online web tutorials, refreshing my knowledge of HTML and XHTML and learning how to use CSS, Flash, and JavaScript.
The site that I’m relying on the most is www.w3schools.com. It’s AMAZING! Run by the World Wide Web consortum, and the information is so easy to read and follow. I’m definitely looking forward to having a better handle on what’s going on with the Web. ![]()

That’s so great Holly! I’m really happy to hear you’re following up on our conversation about web design. Once you’ve gotten through the W3C tutorials, come see me for a lesson in web graphics; great photography speaks volumes!
